Description

The story of Mark Reeder is a long and winding one. It begins in Manchester, and it ends in 5.1 surround sound. In between, there is a move to Berlin, where Reeder acted as promotions manager for Factory Records and his good friends in Joy Division. It then moves on to the experimental and punk music scene in the divided city, with Reeder eventually taking to a church to organize one of the only punk rock shows ever held in the East. There’s also the matter of producing the only state-sanctioned punk group, but that’s a forgotten tale: The Wall fell just as they were completing it.

After that, Reeder went on to found a record label that helped launch the career of Paul Van Dyk, as well as the word “trance.” And then, after PVD left the label, he started all over again with a sound called “wet and hard.” Nowadays, Reeder is in the studio himself, finally indulging his passion for music by making remixes of some of his favorite tunes. Five Point One was released in December, and features his takes on the likes of John Foxx, Depeche Mode and The Pet Shop Boys. Listen in as Reeder recounts all of the above and more in this extensive RA Exchange.
