One UK’s most underrated DJ’s in Bonar Bradberry has long been a respected DJ and producer in his own right on the underground scene. After lying about his age and beginning to play sets at clubs he wasn’t legally old enough to attend it wasn’t long before he began to win residencies at some of his native Birmingham’s hottest nightspots before setting off for Leeds and becoming involved with the notorious Asylum party where he shared a booth with some of the industry’s key figures like Gilles Peterson, Jamie Jones and Ricardo Villalobos.
Ian Blevins has hastily become one of the islands defining features after a weekly residency at arguably the greatest, and by far the most globally well-known night on the island, We Love… at Space. Years of passionately listening to and searching for music, both new and old, has seen Ian’s style mature and has helped cultivate a sound that is now synonymous with his name.
United by their Ibiza adventures, but also their roots in the vibrant dance music scene in Leeds, the pair also proved to be a natural fit in the studio. Their common affinity for old school House sounds, with a dash of modern electronic disco, shines through on ‘Black & Red’.
Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
BRADBERRY: Here are some records we made and some we didn’t
BLEVINS: This will cause your arms and legs to fly about
What’s your personal favourite track on it?
BRADBERRY: some of our music is on here so can’t answer as this would be a conflict of interests 😉
BLEVINS: I’ve not heard the Fort Romeau mix of Ry Y before Bonar played on here. But then there’s our tracks of course. 🙂
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
BLEVINS: The thought of a better world.
BRADBERRY: A good cup of tea.
What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
BLEVINS: We recently had the pleasure of playing our good friends party together in Amsterdam which included a less than civil boat party and an afters in a crane. People, place, atmosphere, occasion all 10/10.
BRADBERRY: ditto 🙂 helluva party …
What have you got coming up?
BLEVINS: We’ve got our first joint EP on Culprit this month and we’ll be knuckling down to get another one down asap as well. On my solo tip I’ve got a lot of music forthcoming in remix, track and EP form through the year. I’m also working on something too I’m very proud of, though not sure how much I can say at the moment so I won’t quite let the cat out the bag.
BRADBERRY: As Ian said we’ll get round to making some more music together soon, but on the solo side, i have an EP coming out on the excellent 2020 Editions label in June and a single for Futureboogie later this summer. on the PBR Streetgang tip side of things we’ve just remixed Bryan Ferry which was huge honour and we have some great EP’s coming out this year but i can’t tell you about them just yet … keep an eye out 🙂
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
BLEVINS: I know where you live.
BRADBERRY: He sees all.
